Sep 23th,2006 Alternative Archive made visual design of Totalstadt: Beijing Case which was exhibited on Sep 23th at Karlsruhe for the ZKM (center for art and technology of Germany ), largely including poster, booklets , attached flyers and work explanations. Sep 19th,2006 Institute of Sound (IOS) had set up a blog
Institute of Sound , 2006, Beijing.Photographer: Cao Fei Institute of Sound (IOS) is a long-term research group focused on the study, composing, presenting and publishing of geo-sonic phenomena. The group consists of sound artists, field-recordists, architects keen on exploring the relationship between sound and physical spaces, and writers interested in the sociological aspect of sound phenomena. With its “sound-as-the-sole-medium” approach, IOS tends to perceive and reflect upon our world with all the non-aural senses shutting down. By collecting and manipulating daily sounds, it attempts to explore the possibilities of sonic narration and the relationship between sound phenomena and the complex social reality. IOS encourages more field-recordists to collect environmental soundscape in China on a regular basis, so as to establish a large-volume sound archive. It will also experiment with alternative modes of distribution and promotion different from those of traditional music industry, such as the Internet as the platform of a larger-scale sharing of sound resources.

July 29th,2006 On May, Cao Fei took new photograph UN-COSPLAYERS in Beijing . Comparing with the COSPLAY in 2004, this series of pictures are focused on the common people wearing Cosplay-style clothes, illustrating the meaning of “UN”(excluding, anti-), both for the TOKYO GALLERY 's invitation and editor John Millichap of 3030 : New Photography in China . Meanwhile, there was an opening show UN-COSPLAYERS at TOKYO GALLERY exhibition space in 798.

May 22th, 2006 Cao Fei won the Best of Young Artist Award of Chinese Contemporary Art Awards (CCAA) 2006. CCAA was found by Swiss collector Uli Sigg in 1998, the juries of this year includes: Fan Di’an, director of China National Museum of Art; Noack Ruth, curator of Documenta 12; Ulig Sigg; Chris Dercon, director of Haus der Kunst and Ai Weiwei, artist.
